Morning Coffee Break and a Book

10:30 AM - 11:30 AM
Messenger Public Library North Aurora Illinois
Conference Room
This month we will be discussing Dark Matter by Blake Crouch.

One night after an evening out, Jason Dessen, forty-year-old physics professor living with his wife and son in Chicago, is kidnapped at gunpoint by a masked man, driven to an abandoned industrial site and injected with a powerful drug. As he wakes, a man Jason's never met smiles down at him and says, "Welcome back, my friend." But this life is not the one he knows. His wife is not his wife; his son was never born; and he's not an ordinary college professor, but a celebrated genius who has achieved something impossible. Is it this world or the other that's the dream? How can he possibly make it back to the family he loves? The answers lie in a journey more wondrous and horrifying than anything he could have imagined--one that will force him to confront the darkest parts of himself as he battles a terrifying, seemingly unbeatable foe.

This month's selection is The Child Finder by Rene Denfeld.

"Three years ago Madison Culver went missing at the age of five while looking for a Christmas tree with her family. Private investigator Naomi Cottle continues the investigation and believes that Madison's disappearance can only be the result of an abduction. Naomi's personal journey from foster child to adulthood parallels her search for Madison, and as her fears and sources of determination come to light, the narrative also dips into Madison's mind, allowing readers to experience her terrifying ordeal at the hands of her captor."--Provided by publisher.

Lions Club Hearing Tests

9:00 AM - 12:00 PM
Messenger Public Library North Aurora Illinois
The Lions Club of North Aurora Illinois is sponsoring this event in conjunction with and as part of the Village wide North Aurora Days celebration ( August 2 - 5 2018 ).

In 1978, the Lions of Illinois Foundation placed the Mobile Hearing Screening Unit on the road for the purpose of detecting hearing loss and preventing deafness.  It is staffed by a trained technician and in the history of this unit, over 125,000 Illinois residents have been screened. The testing vehicle will be setup on the west side of the library in front of the west side book return turnaround driveway.

A hearing screening is NOT a complete hearing examination.  It is a gross hearing measurement to determine only if the individual is hearing within normal limits.  To fail a hearing screening is not sufficient diagnosis of a hearing impairment.  However, it is an early warning sign that should encourage persons failing the screening to seek a complete hearing evaluation.

Join us for a classic film, and enjoy the free popcorn and lemonade. This month we will be showing Dial M for Murder starring Grace Kelly and Ray Milland.

In London, wealthy Margot Mary Wendice had a brief love affair with the American writer Mark Halliday while her husband and professional tennis player Tony Wendice was on a tennis tour. Tony quits playing to dedicate to his wife and finds a regular job. She decides to give him a second chance for their marriage. When Mark arrives from America to visit the couple, Margot tells him that she had destroyed all his letters but one that was stolen. Subsequently she was blackmailed, but she had never retrieved the stolen letter. Tony arrives home, claims that he needs to work and asks Margot to go with Mark to the theater. Meanwhile Tony calls Captain Lesgate (aka Charles Alexander Swann who studied with him at college) and blackmails him to murder his wife, so that he can inherit her fortune. But there is no perfect crime, and things do not work as planned.
